There are many ideas clamoring for the attention of institutional investment managers these days. Passive investment options, smart beta products, increasing private investment, to name a few. Sometimes we see the industry as a whole gravitate towards an idea en masse, which causes crowding and dilutes alpha.This piece explores the validity of applying a more classic approach to the current market. Here, we use Novus tools to dissect the track record of Torck Capital Management, a GARP-oriented manager. We study the strategy of this portfolio, and simultaneously demonstrate how to perform diligence on managers like Torck, who have a more traditional investment selection style.
